Ciara | Upcoming Album Renamed, Artwork + Tracklisting Revealed
Previously titled One Woman Army, it looks like Ciara just couldn’t settle with the prior concept of her upcoming fifth studio album Ciara (due July 9). I guess it only makes sense to finally have a self-titled project; however, this decision does send a certain message. I can only hope this is what she is aiming for: When a music artist produces a self-tittled work (usually early on in their career), it conveys a message of true self–a compilation of songs that strips down the artist to the essence of her musical style. A small set of 10 tracks shows that Ciara really wants to add focus to the album. Although CiCi was excited about her past projects, Basic Instinct (2010) and Fantasy Ride (2009) were obviously flops that contained a mess of songs that didn’t showcase Ciara’s true worth. Now, I always give Ciara shade in my posts because she tries SO HARD and then fails miserably. Yes, she’s been having difficulties with proper label representation (LaFace Records), but her prior works have just always seemed unoriginal. Newly signed to Epic, I hope she made some conscious musical/artistic decisions that caters to an original, but relevant sound for 2013.
The 10 tracks feature the Mike Will Made It single “Body Party,” with production from Rodney Jerkins, The Underdogs, and Soundz. She grabs a verse from Nicki Minaj on the opening track “I’m Out” and duets with her beau Future on “Where You Go.” CiCi channels her inner rapper on “Super Turnt Up” and toasts to the good life on “Livin’ It Up,” penned by Wynter Gordon. “She overcame a lot and through time you will tell when she puts this album out, it’s gonna be one of those albums that you look back on,” said Future. “Today, I’m already calling it a classic before it even come out.” (source). Okayyy Future… never put the cart before the horse. I’ll believe it when I hear it!
